How to become an Approved Driving Instructor
To become an Approved Driving Instructor
you will require a high standard of driving ability and also a thourough
knowledge of the highway code and subjects relating to teaching
others to drive. It is important that any potential ADI be good
at the following:
How to teach learner drivers.
How people learn to drive.
How to assess the performance of learner drivers.
How to communicate as a driving instructor to learner
drivers.
Interpersonal skills.
Qualifying as an Approved
Driving Instructor
To qualify as an Approved Driving
Instructor you have to pass a driving theory test
including hazard perception test, a practical
driving test and a test of instructional ability.
All 3 parts of the ADI examination must be passed
within a 2 year period. The Theory test may be
attempted any number of times while the 2 practical parts of the
Approved Driving Instructor test may only be sat
3 times each. If you fail or are unable to
complete the appropriate ADI test then you must
start the whole process again from the beginning.
How
do I obtain Approved Driving Instructor Training
There are many ADI trainers who
provide Driving Instructor Training in the UK.

as you train ADI training courses. To find out more contact

a starter pack from the DSA and enclosed within
you will find a list of Ordit Registered Driving Instructor
Trainers. Being
Ordit registered means that the Trainers
have reached the standards set by the Driver Training
Industry and the Driving Standards Agency.
Applying
to become an Approved Driving Instructor
The first thing that should be done is to complete
the application to become a driving instructor
which you will find in the application pack. Once sent to the DSA
the registrar will decide if it will be accepted. You must provide
to character references along with the application.
It should not be thought that the application to become a driving
instructor will be autimatically accepted as it has to
conform to certain legal requirements.
How
to obtain an Approved Driving Instructor starter
pack
An Approved Driving Instructor starter
pack is available from the DSA. Within the pack
you will find an explanatory booklet which explains in more detail
the processess on how to become an Approved Driving Instructor.
You will also find details of the ADI register,
an Official Register of Driving Instructor Training
(ORDIT), the Approved Driving Instructor question
bank for the ADI theory test and
an application form.
